Zentangles, I did not expect to find true love so fast. Here's the concept: You have a defined space, like a square (or sometimes just a blank space), and a defined pattern. For example, some patterns call for you to draw a line from a corner of a box to approximately 1/3 of the adjascent wall. And then...you repeat it!! It may sound boring, but it often results in a really interesting pattern.
Honestly, I don't have much to take away artistically from zentangles other than I love me a good formulated pattern. I've always been the type to love geometric doodles and rules in art- so zentangles quickly made their way into my doodle rotation. I hope you enjoy some variations I made as much as I loved making them.
