Variety Show Poster!

Color Theory: the study of how colors interact with each other and how they can be combined to create visually pleasing designs. It is both a science and an art, explaining the relationships between colors, how they can be mixed or contrasted, and the psychological effects they have on people.

Color theory, a wild complex concept when you delve into it- so lets keep it simple. Basically, some colors blend nicer together than others. In making this year's AV variety show poster (a rad talent show in my town), I utilized an analogous color combination (one of the many ways you can use a color wheel to create cool palletes). This technique makes a pallete based off of colors that are next to eachother in the color wheel. In my case, this was red, orange, and yellow. This evoked a fun exciting feeling!
So this process was really fun! I treated this poster similar to the school map, drawing the background of the grange (the place where the variety show is held) first, and adding in the characters later. Since I was making this poster for another group, I had restraints to my creative liberties. I could come up with the concept, draw it out, but if they didn't like it- I'd have to scrap an idea. So I made a solid plan, and kept the people running the show updated throughout the process. I think that's really my main takeaway from this process- planning, and back and forth communication with art!
